Is Perl dying?

Posted by ragnakore on 2018-04-14 01:49

I've been searching through the Internet for an active Perl forum and for the most part am very discouraged by the fact that there are no answers given.

This forum for instance: I hardly see any activities for weeks on end. And over at Perl Guru, same.

Is Perl a dying language?

sad :(

This forum is aimed at ActivePerl, and ActivePerl only, so there's only a tiny fraction of the activity from the community as a whole. Mailing lists, like perl5porters are still very active, as is the Perl Monks community

and StackOverFlow

Perl guru originally promoted CGI Perl use. That *is* an area which is being "discouraged". CGI is no longer a core Perl module.

PerlWeekly is a much more modern take on a Perl news page.

Perl is NOT dying, but ActivePerl IMHO.

If it would be alive, then they had a solution for umlauts and UTF8.

But nowadays, in the 21st century, they still don't have one :-(
